Hi Matt,
Just wanted to let you know that I am looking forward to E-Commerce II. E-Commerce I was truly inspirational. I don't kiss ass (I have a reputation of being hard-nosed and very straight-forward), so don't take the following comment in any other way other than an inspiration for you to do better: Your class was the best class I have ever had in my lifetime. DePaul needs more people like you.
By the way, is there any way to get some of the reading materials ahead of the class? I know how much reading is involved in your class, and was hoping to reduce some load by reading ahead.
Currently, I just completed telecommunications and database classes. I will be taking E-Commerce II and hopefully E-Commerce III (if time permits). After E-Commerce II, I am eligible to graduate with MIS and Operations Management concentration. However, I do plan on taking E-Commerce III and jumping into E-Commerce industry as soon as possible. I am hoping my engineering background and MBA will make me an attractive candidate in the industry.
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Alex.
Hi Matt!
Just wanted to say hello! Just doing the E-Commerce thing here at Dell in Austin - I finished in the summer and left E&Y and took a job with Dell. You need to check out the town at www.austin360.com. It is a high-tech, internet start-up mecca. Loved the classes at DePaul and it looks like you are well on your way to School President! Hope all is well keep in touch.

Hi Matt,
I just wanted to say that I'd enjoyed your E-Commerce class a lot. So much that I was offer a job in web marketing for Diners Club.
I must admit that the class made me accomplish some things I wouldn't be able to do before.. i.e. building a website (in case you do not
remember me, I was in the Omegawinter99 class ..team Starr Wars & MothersLove project). In any case, thanks for the push.
I see that you are also offering E-Commerce II and III. Congrats!! I am quite interested in those classes as well, but I don't think I'll be able
to take any since I have graduated. Anyway, I just wanted to update you with what I am doing/going to be doing. Please be in touch.
Nikki
Hi Matt!
Since your class I've been really busy. I went to a part-time work schedule in the spring and I gave birth
to my son Jacob Michael on 5/27/99 (as you recall, I spent my first trimester going downtown after working
all day just to take your class). Wayne Drazek and I attended DePaul's Centennial commencement in June
and received our diplomas (Jacob - 2 weeks old - and my family also attended). We were dubbed
the "rudest graduating class" according to one of the faculty there so I guess that's something to be
remembered for... (A number of graduates simply walked off the platform after their names were called and
didn't return to their seats.)
I haven't returned to work as of yet and I'm taking some time off to be a mother until my husband tells me
I have to earn some money again. :) I've certainly been keeping an eye out for eCommerce stuff since
taking your class.
Thanks for making my last class so enjoyable! Sorry I missed your other classes...

hope that DePaul is taking care of you! $$$$$! I assume that you are
positioning yourself to take a strong leadership role at DePaul for
E-Classes!
We are going to have a public announcement on the project that I'm

Again, thanks for the Web space. I'll be sure to keep in touch.

Hello Matt,
Hope you had an enjoyable summer. I was in your Spring '99 eComm II
class which was my last class at DePaul. I have to say that was a
mind-opening class and I really learned a lot. I am still working for
Andersen Consulting -- but doing finance (doesn't sound too exciting).
But the interesting part is that I am in their Strategic Consulting area
and have opportunities to learn some of the leading-edge knowledge in
various areas -- such as eCommerce. Your class has enabled me to think
strategically when I am reading internal research articles around eComm
initiatives. In the meantime I am trying to enjoy the "no school" life
and have been doing some travel-- just went to the US Open in NYC and it
was a lot of fun.
Thanks very much for the class update email you sent out today. It
appears that you are taking on more responsibilities as the business
school tries to build a strong eComm curriculum.
Thanks again. Take care!

I'll have a new emaill address at work....something like

information presented in your class was very relevant to the field and also
very informative. I feel I got a lot out of the readings as well as out of
the class discussions. I know that everything that we learned about in class
will help me in any field that I pursue, not just Ecommerce.
Please keep me/us posted on the Ecommerce concentration, since this

I am sure you have played a big role in developing this. To say this area

understatement. At EDS, all of our clients are becoming increasingly
interested in any electronic commerce solutions we can "bring to the table"
(hence the new name of my division E.Solutions).
Recently, I have been put in charge of finance and contract administration

Thanks for the update. Please keep me on your distribution list!

Well, Oracle did not pan out as expected and I closed my eyes and jumped to

fact, I am so grateful I learn about SSL and FTP in your class otherwise I'd
be totally behind the 8 ball here.

Matt,
Just wanted to tell you that your E-Commerce class was one of the most
valuable classes I've taken at DePaul. This quarter was the first time I
ordered anything from Amazon.com. I bought Information Rules, Competitive
Strategy by Porter, The Information Paradox, and now Strategy of a Dolphin.
These are incredible books to stay current with the rocket pace of IT.
I've sent your website to about 10 people here in my company and they love
it. There is so much valuable info in your site. I really like the new
book site. Even though class is over, I will still peruse your site to see
what's going on. Thanks again!!

Matt,
While I was a student in your class, I wasn't working in the IT field. However, I was picking up some tricks and tips
from your class and studying some things on my own. Now, I am working at a new IT company that just started
up in Hinsdale. I work at Interlock Solutions (www.interlocksolutions.com) as an Account Executive. I am
soon going to be a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and will also pursue the Novell and Cisco certifications.
I hope you are doing well. I'm looking forward to taking the 2nd e-commerce course!

Matt,
By far, I learned more practical information from your class than I have in ANY other MIS course – as well as my other MBA courses. This is not to say that I haven’t learned a great deal in my other courses, but rather, how exception your class is! Your class helped me broaden my understanding of technology and made me a more valuable asset to my firm and our clients. I'm looking foward to your follow-up course......
DOTTE
Matt,
Thanks for a great mind-expanding class. I have recommended your Electronic Commerce class to many fellow students. Keep up the great job!
I now work for Ameritech in Hoffman Estates. Considering the fact, I still live in the city; the drive is becoming pretty mind numbing. I work in Capital Network Finance. We are doing some pretty cool stuff out there and I thank you for the insight you shared in class of the electronic commerce / telecommunications industry as a whole. It has helped me considerably.
Dan O
PS: I saw you down by Gamekeepers a few weeks back, but I couldn't figure out if you were walking in, walking out, or walking by….
You are one of the few MIS professors that actually integrates the use of the web to conduct your class. I am really suprised that others have not done the same seeing as this is the most efficient means to communicate.
I am working at Brinson Partners, Inc., a division of UBS AG, as a Database Operations Analyst and having a great time. If all goes well, I will be finished in Spring 1999.
I think this site is a great idea and could definitely be a resource for many students.
Teachers in the Kellstadt side to take: Definitely Matt....
Teachers in the School of CTI for you MS in MIS people: Zhang (CSC449), Liu (CSC551), Back
Ideas for this or another course: Looking at international issues in ecommerce and legal aspects governing ecommerce.
Great idea!! I'm still at IBM (I'm a lifer) in NY, but I'll be in Chicago every weekend. I finished my my MS in IS in June at DePaul, and I start the weekend MBA program at the University of Chicago tomorrow. Just like you - collecting degrees.
At IBM, we use a product called VP Buddy. I think we looked at it in your class. It's an instant message chat tool that IBM now owns. It came in real handy over the last 6 weeks while I was in Paris.
One idea - an informal resume posting area for current and previous students looking for jobs.
Matt,
Good to hear from you again. I think this page is a great idea.
I finished my MBA/MIS this past summer. I took a job with Bricker & Associates starting in August. We're a small management consulting company downtown concentrating on process design and IT strategy. So far, I love it. I haven't had a chance to apply some of the stuff from your class, but I'm looking forward to it. It's much less techy than my previous job but I enjoy the high level fluffy stuff more than the nuts and bolts of programming. BTW.... We have a bunch of KGSB grads working for us and we're looking for more. Anyone tired of their jobs and looking for bigger and better things, email me.
Good luck with your new class!
P.S. How is the HR Global Village web site doing?

while MIS concentrates on keeping the server up and doing new development. I, unfortunately, am most likely going to give up

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your ECommerce class. It was one of
the best classes I have taken at DePaul. You obviously put a lot of time
into the preparation for the class, including the class web-site. I'm glad
I will still have access to the site as I should now have more time to read
the many articles you provide on the site, as well as the suggested reading.
DePaul is definitely lucky to have you as an Instructor. Not only are you
knowledgeable about the topic you teach, but you also present the
information very well and get the students involved to the fullest extent.
I was also really impressed when you offered to stay after class to teach
some of us how to actually create a web-site.
It's good to hear that you'll be teaching next year. If you do decide to
teach a class that is an extension of the ECommerce class, please be sure to

Matt,
Just wanted to extend special appreciation for the awesome class this
past semester. I have to say, "Electronic Commerce" was the most
interesting and enjoyable course I have taken to date at DePaul (and I
only have the capstone and an elective left to go, so that about
covers the curriculum). This is largely because of the tremendous
enthusiasm, real-life perspective, and fun you injected into the
course.
The course would not have been the same with another instructor. I
wish DePaul had more instructors like yourself; young, successful,
loving their work, and dying to share the reality of the industry. I
was growing quite a bit tired of the old "Andersen Android" professors
(who shall remain nameless :), and there are a few) who spend most of
the classes spewing theory and singing the praises of Andersen
Consulting. Your class definitely a breath of fresh air.
Best of luck to you, and thank you for a terrific class!

P.S. If you think it would get you some brownie points, please send

DePaul should be thrilled to have you.
P.P.S. Do you use "AOL Instant Messenger" that comes with Netscape?
If so, maybe we could "chat" sometime. I am curious to learn more

Hi Matt,
Hope you are doing well. I was a student in you spring class. I saw
an article in the Wall St. Journal last week that I though would be
useful for your class. Its about the new economy. It discusses how
the internet tech stocks are worth (market capitalization) a lot more
than traditional media companies. For example, American Online is
worth more than ABC, CBS and NBC combined. The article makes the
point that this is not just due to a fad or because the economy is
strong now. Here is a part of it.
"Suppose the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell to 5000 and stayed
there...Then what?...would satisfied Amazon.com customers suddenly
feel an urge to jump back into their cars and drive to stores?...Don't
let this summer's high stock prices make you cynical about the
Internet economy. It's real and revolutionary"
It is a short article, and I think it would be good for your digital
economy part of the class. If you would like I will send you a copy.

Matt !
How are you? I just checked your class web site and see you are still
going strong with the ECommerce class. Hope everything is great with
you.
I've been a little busy, as you can imagine, for the past 6 months. I
had a baby boy, Chuck, on 1/31, weighing in at 9 lbs., 1 oz., measuring
22 1/2 inches long. He's just terrific and I'm having lots of fun. I
never knew babies could be so captivating!
I've also been consulting in cash management in my "spare" time for the
past 4 months, and just landed a full-time (30-hour week) position with
Bank of America in Marketing Communications for their Cash Management
section. I'll also have an opportunity to work a bit on their intranet.
The position is an ideal mix of all my experience, and I'm quite
pleased. I'll be downtown everyday, so if you'd like to meet for lunch
sometime, please send me an email. I'd love to catch up.
Hope to talk (or email) soon!
