Your Groups Task:
Your group is to prepare an eBusiness plan from the eBiz Model which won the election by your group last week. Your groups mission is to prepare an eBusiness plan which is intended to be shown to investors for the purpose of raising capital for the startup. (Be sure to completely read the 2 Business 2.0 articles concerning eBiz startups.) So it must be persuasive, prove the business model, prove the models economic business case, and showcase it's appealing attributes. Your group should perform these tasks as a team, and the work can be distributed any way the team see fit. (Remember, there 'are' peer evaluations in this class, so no slackers.com candidates) Your team will present your business case during the last class. (See presentations section)

Write-up (Dead tree edition and Electronic edition):

Dead Tree Edition:

The write-up should be twelve pages 'exactly' in length, no more, no less. 12 pages is enough for this class to get your point across. Remember, single spaced, and no judicious use of white space or graphics please. You should peruse the online resources for the ebiz Plan outline that best suites your taste. I'll not be imposing any specific outline on you (since no one will in the real world either). However, if I can't read it easily, I do what the folks in the real world do, and that's file it immediately in the "Round File" (which would be bad for your grade), so make it very readable pls.

Electronic Edition

I'll require a Word document which contains the electronic copy of your 'dead tree' version, and then you will also be required to produce a P owerPoint slide presentation for use in presenting the eBiz Plan during the last class.  Both copies (PowerPoint and Word) should be sent via email no later than June 7, 2000.

Plan your time by this measurement: There are 6 groups, and about 2.5 hrs (150 minutes) to present (after the usual late start to class, break, chatter, etc). Factoring in all of the shuffle required when whole groups mobilize for presentations, etc ... we actually have about 100 minutes in which to do the presentations. Factoring in further my interruptions with questions as the 'VC Guy', you now have about about 78 minutes (total for 6 groups). That amounts to about 13 minutes per group presentation. So plan on that. 13 minutes is the official limit. This should help you plan just how many powerpoint slides you should have. (And this is reasonably realistic in the real world as well). Other than these instructions, you are on you own.

In Class Presentation: June 6th, 2000

Your mission is to present your eBiz plan to an investor in hopes of seeking money for your startup. You have to convince the 'VC Guy' of the merits of your eBiz Plan in hopes that you would get investment money. You can present anyway you wish, using any number of people from you group.

There are some things to keep in mind and to expect during this process.

  • (1) You need to be clear, and get your point across quickly, otherwise you are doomed. You have 13 minutes, that's it.
  • (2) You must be convincing, weak arguments don't product much.
  • (3) Expect to be challenged on anything. Challenge your most basic assumptions, I will.
  • (4) It is possible that you could be interrupted during your presentation, be ready for that. Consider this a private presentation, not a public presentation.
  • (5) I may bring in an outside panel of people to help me judge the merits of your proposals. Just FYI.
